Power Belongs to The People

Washington seems to have forgotten something important: elected officials work for the American People, not the other way around.

Our government was established to represent citizens, protect individual freedoms, and operate within the boundaries of the Constitution. Yet somewhere along the way, many Americans began feeling more like spectators than the people who actually hold the power.

Political leaders make promises, campaigns come and go, and party loyalty often overshadows the principles our country was built upon.

But here's the truth: Government authority comes from The People. And that authority should never be taken for granted.

The Constitution Was Designed to Limit Government

America's Founders understood the dangers of allowing too much power to become concentrated in the hands of a few.

That's why the United States Constitution established three branches of government, checks and balances, and limits on federal authority.

These safeguards weren't created to protect politicians. They were designed to protect the constitutional system and the rights of Americans.

The National Archives preserves the Constitution and provides historical information about the principles underlying our government.

Those constitutional boundaries shouldn't change depending on who's sitting in the White House or which political party controls Congress.

The Constitution isn't a political tool. It's the foundation that defines and limits government power.

Accountability Must Apply to Everyone

One of America's biggest political problems is selective accountability.

When an opposing politician is accused of wrongdoing, people often demand immediate answers. But when someone from their preferred party faces similar questions, those same people may suddenly become defensive.

That double standard weakens public trust.

Government accountability means applying consistent standards to elected officials regardless of political affiliation.

It means asking difficult questions, demanding transparency, respecting due process, and insisting that public officials follow the law.

No politician deserves unconditional loyalty.

If we're willing to excuse questionable behavior simply because someone belongs to our political party, we're putting politics ahead of principles.

Citizens Have a Responsibility to Stay Involved

It's easy to criticize Washington. It's much harder to remain informed and actively involved.

A government accountable to The People requires citizens who understand their rights, follow important issues, examine political claims, and participate in their communities.

Voting matters, but civic responsibility doesn't end at the ballot box.

It also means attending local meetings, communicating with elected representatives, asking questions about public spending, and challenging policies through lawful democratic processes.

We cannot expect politicians to take accountability seriously if citizens stop demanding it.

It's Time to Restore the Proper Balance of Power

The American Party believes the relationship between government and citizens should never be confused.

Public officials are entrusted with authority to carry out their responsibilities—not given unlimited power over the people they represent.

That principle shouldn't belong exclusively to conservatives, liberals, Republicans, or Democrats.

It belongs to every American.

We may disagree about individual policies, but we can still stand together for constitutional limits, equal treatment under the law, and honest public service.

Government doesn't give The People their power. The People give government its authority.

And it's time we started acting like it.
